Cold Blast Has Arrived. Snow/Mix/Rain Sunday Nt. & Monday…

Synopsis:

A significant season changing airmass has moved into the area. Plummeting temperatures and gusty winds are anticipated into Saturday under a mix of sun and clouds as a cold pool of air works in from Canada.   Temperatures will remain in the 30 through the weekend. The winds will abate on Sunday making for a somewhat more comfortable day.  Clouds will thickening and snow showers are likely later in the afternoon as a system develops to our West.

Snow Lovers may have something to cheer about especially if you live North and West of the City. The latest European model TAKEN VERBATIM (2nd map above) shows a hit of snow Sunday night into Monday morning.  There has been a notable change with the latest computer guidance.  The primary low over the Ohio valley will NOW remain the dominate feature.  This will result in a slightly warmer atmosphere for our area.  Yes, high pressure in Quebec will supply the cold air, but the high will lose its influence over the coastal plain. The snow will change to rain at the coast and farther to the South during Monday morning.  A minor accumulation is possible here before the changeover.  Inland the cold air will be stubborn to erode. This will result in higher snow amounts with a change to freezing rain and or rain for some areas.  Stay tuned.

Today:

Partly cloudy, breezy and much colder than recent days. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds at 15-25mph with gusts to 30mph. Wind chills will be in the upper 20s and 30s.

Tonight:

Partly cloudy, colder. Lows in the upper 20s in the City, near 20º inland. Northwest winds at 15-25mph and diminishing.

Saturday:

Partly cloudy, breezy and cold. Highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Sunday:

Any morning sun will give way to thickening clouds. Snow showers are possible during the afternoon. Highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Monday:

Snow and freezing rain inland. Rain at the coast. Highs in the upper 30s, closer to freezing North and West.

Tuesday:

Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s.

Winter Preview Next Several Days. Snow Potential Sunday Nt./Monday…

screen-shot-2016-12-08-at-1-22-11-pm

Synopsis:

A significant season changing airmass will move into the area by Friday. A cold front will move trough the region and keep our temperatures in the 30s.  Plummeting temperatures and gusty winds are anticipated into Saturday under a mix of sun and clouds.   Sunday will be more tranquil as the winds abate.

Snow Lovers may have something to cheer about. The latest European model TAKEN VERBATIM (2nd map above) shows a hit of snow Sunday night into Monday morning.  The primary low over the Ohio valley will weaken as a secondary low tries to take shape off the NJ coast. This will supply the moisture. High pressure will be in Quebec supplying the cold air. Will the warm air to the South win out or will the cold air be locked in so much of the time the precipitation will be snow?  The snow has a good chance of mixing with or changing to rain at the coast and farther to the South during the day on Monday. The event is still 3-4 days away. No way is this etched in stone. Just want you to be aware of the potential. Stay tuned.

Tonight:

Mostly clear, colder. Lows around 30º in the City, the 20s inland. Northwest winds at 15-25mph.

Friday:

Partly cloudy, breezy and much colder than recent days. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds at 15-25mph.

Saturday:

Partly cloudy, breezy and cold. Highs in the mid to upper 30s.

Sunday:

Morning sun, afternoon clouds. Highs around 40º.

Monday:

A chance of snow early with rain or a mix likely at the coast. Highs in the upper 30s.

Tuesday:

Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 40s.

Cold Blast on the Way…

Synopsis:

A significant season changing airmass will move into the area by Friday.  There will actually be two cold fronts that will bring down the Winter-like chill.  One cold front will pass the area on today, the second on Friday. The map above shows  the Arcitc air invading the Northern Plains tomorrow. Now, our temperatures won’t be nearly as cold but plummeting temperatures and gusty winds are anticipated Friday and Saturday.  I’m keeping any eye on several pieces to the puzzle for Monday into Tuesday.  A snow/mix threat is on the table. The potential has increased for snow, especially for interior.  Stay tuned.

In the City and to the South and along the coast rain or a mix of rain and snow is expected. It doesn’t look like much, but a coating is quite possible in colder areas. A low pressure system will affect the area later Tuesday into Wednesday.  This time around it looks like mainly a rain event as a warm Southerly flow aloft will prevail. A significant season changing front will move into the area by Friday.  Plummeting temperatures and high winds are anticipated into next weekend. Stay tuned.

Tranquil, Cool First Weekend of December…

Synopsis:

High pressure over the central part of the country combined with strong low pressure in Eastern Canada will keep the winds busy through today.  By Sunday, the high will move over the region bringing and end to the brisk conditions. It will be dry and more seasonal for this time of the year with a mix of sun and clouds. A weak disturbance passing through the region Sunday night and early Monday morning will most likely result in a period of light snow for the region.  It doesn’t look like much, but a coating is quite possible in colder areas. Looking down the pike my eyes are on a low pressure system that will affect the area later Tuesday. Cold high pressure wants to hang on over the Northeast but the warm Southerly flow aloft will most likely prevail.  The other issue, the some computer guidance suggests the the bulk of the precipitation slides to the South and off the coast.  The chances of any snow are minimal at this time. With a mix to rain quite possible inland.  A significant season changing front will move into the area late week.  Plummeting temperatures and high winds are anticipated. Stay tuned.

Today:

Partly sunny, breezy and seasonal. Highs in the mid 40s.  Northwest winds at 15-25mph with gusts to 30mph.

A few showers of rain or snow early, otherwise partly sunny. Highs in the mid to upper 40s.

More Seasonal December Weather Ahead…

Synopsis:

High pressure over the central part of the country combined with strong low pressure in Eastern Canada will keep the winds busy the next several days. It will be dry and more seasonal for this time of the year with a mix of sun and clouds. Looking down the pike my eyes are on a potential low pressure system that may affect the area later Tuesday. The models have been it a state of mayhem with the solution. Lets see how the elements come together over the next couple of days.  Cold high pressure wants to hang on over the Northeast but the warm Southerly flow aloft will most likely prevail.  The other issue, the latest computer guidance suggests the the bulk of the precipitation slides to the South and off the coast.  The chances of any snow are minimal at this time. With a mix to rain quite possible inland.  Stay tuned.

Today:

Partly sunny and breezy. Highs near 50º. West wind at 15-25mph.

Tonight:

Mostly clear and colder.  Lows in the upper 30s in the City, near freezing inland. West wind at 10-20mph.

Saturday:

Partly sunny, breezy and seasonal. Highs in the mid to upper 40s.

Sunday:

Sunny, cool. Highs in the mid 40s.

Monday:

Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid to upper 40s.
