Synopsis:

Low pressure over the Central Appalachians today will begin to move toward the region. Sunshine will give way to late afternoon clouds. Clouds will thicken tonight but it will remain dry.

As the low moves just to our South it will throw on and off light snow or snow showers our way for Tuesday. On and off light sleet, freezing rain mixed with the snow will likely occur in the NYC vicinity and to the South. Central and Southern NJ will mainly experience rain.. This system will basically fall apart over the region so a big snow will not happen. A coating of snow is likely in areas where snow is the predominate type of precipitation. No accumulation is expected over Southern areas.

Early morning showers of mixed precipitation and snow showers will give way to some sun as the weak system pulls off our coast on Wednesday.

All eyes then turn to a developing Carolina storm on Wednesday night and Thursday. The computer models are in good agreement that this storm will intensify rapidly and move off the Virginia coast and not up the coast, sparing the region of snow. It will be windy and cold as the storm cranks offshore Thursday. A mix of sun and clouds is expected.

Behind the Atlantic storm, Arctic high pressure will funnel in the coldest air of the season so far on Friday. Mainly sunny skies are expected with a biting wind.

Partly sunny, windy and very cold. Highs only in the upper 20s.

 

Synopsis:

Canadian high pressure will settle over the region today resulting in abundant sunshine. Readings will struggle to crack the freezing mark. Thankfully, the winds will have abated some.

Low pressure will be over the Central Appalachians on Monday. Morning sun will give way to afternoon clouds. As the low moves just to our South it will throw light snow or snow showers our way for Tuesday. This system will basically fall apart over the region so a big snow will not happen. A coating of snow is the thinking.

Residual mositure Wednesday morning may result in a few snow showers, otherwise skies will be mostly cloudy.

Strong high pressure over Canada will influence our weather this weekend. Sunny skies are expected with below average temperatures. Today, the wind will add a bite. Sunday will be more tranquil.

Low pressure will be over the Central Appalachians on Monday. Any sun will give way to increasing and thickening clouds. As the low moves just to our South it will throw light snow our way Monday Night. The low will weaken and move offshore on Tuesday. Light snow is likely for the majority of Tuesday. An accumulation is likely but this does not look like a major snowfall at this time. The early thinking is possibly a coating to a few inches.

The sun will return Wednesday as a cold Northerly flow continues.

The next system looks to pass well to our South Thursday.

A mix of sun and clouds is expected as a cold front approaches today. Readings will be several degrees above the average high of 38º. A few flurries are possible later in the day with the passage of the front.

We’ll be in January’s grip tonight with an Arctic airmass spilling in. Lows will be well below freezing.

The potential has increased some for a period of snow Monday evening into a part of Tuesday as the low spreads a swath of snow our way. An accumulation is possible, but it’s way too early to discuss any amounts. This does not look like a major snowfall at this time.

Looking ahead, computer models are in a state of disarray. Low pressure will be over the Central Appalachians whether it slides to our South or affects our weather remains to be seen. A low potential for late day snow is in the forecast for Monday.

Synopsis:

A developing offshore low and approaching cold front will cause scattered snow showers early this morning. A dusting to coating of snow is possible in spots. A mix of sun and clouds is expected with scattered flurries around midday to early afternoon with the push of colder air. High temperatures will occur early in the day. Readings will fall through the 30s during the afternoon as the Canadian air moves. Winds will increase out of the Northwest and become strong during the afternoon with wind chills falling into the 20s later in the day.

One of the coldest nights we’ve experienced in some time is on the way tonight. Under mostly clear skies and diminishing winds readings will fall well below freezing throughout.
