Synopsis:.

The Spring Preview continues. The only exception will be those coastal areas that remain socked in with low clouds and fog with a cooler wind off the Atlantic. A southwest wind will prevail boosting the mercury some twenty degrees above average though Saturday with high pressure off the Southeast coast pumping up the warmth. A cold front will approach on Saturday with periods of rain-most likely in the afternoon.

Colder temperatures will make a comeback by Sunday.

Looking ahead no major cold blasts or storms are in sight as we flip the calendar from February to March.

Today:

Areas of morning fog, otherwise partly sunny, continued warm. Highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s inland, the 50s and 60s at the coast and North and East of the City. South wind at 8-12mph.

Tonight:

Mostly cloudy with areas of fog and scattered drizzle. Lows in the 50s throughout. South to Southeast wind less than 5mph.

Saturday:

Mostly cloudy and balmy with areas of drizzle and scattered showers. A line of heavy showers and possible thunderstorms will move in toward sunset. Highs in the 60s West of the City, the 40s and 50s to the East.

Sunday:

Partly sunny, windy and colder with readings in the mid 40s. The normal high is 45º.

Monday:

Partly sunny.  Highs in the upper 40s.

Tuesday:

Mostly cloudy and mild with scattered showers.  Highs in the mid 50s.

High pressure from the North will settle into the region today. It won’t be nearly as warm but temperatures will still be several degrees above average.

Not as Warm Presidents’ Day but Still Mild…

 

Synopsis:.

The record warm air-mass of the weekend has moved offshore. Cooler high pressure from the North is settling in to the trip-state area.  Temperatures will still be several degrees above average for the Holiday and Tuesday.

A warm front will move into the region tomorrow night with a few showers. Another push of warm air will reach the region for mid to late week. Spring fever will once again take hold as the mercury soars.

Record Warm High Temps Possible Today…

 

Synopsis:.

This Presidents’ Holiday Weekend will go down as one of the warmest in history of the tri-state area.  Yesterday temperatures reached the mid 60s and today will be a carbon copy. Very warm air has settled over the Eastern states with high pressure off the Southeast coast pumping up the unprecedented April-like readings. Record highs are possible today. The record for Central Park is 66º set in 1997-that maybe in jeopardy.

A cool front will move through tonight. It’ll be moisture starved so not much in the way of showers is expected. Temperatures will come down, but still be well above seasonal averages. The normal high for this date is 44º.

Looking down the pike our balmy weather will continue with no Arctic air in sight.

Partly cloudy and cooler. Lows around 40º in the City, near 30º inland. Northwest winds at 8-12mph.

The cold snap will be short-lived as a warm push of air will work into the region as high pressure moves in from the West the next several days. The temperature map above shows a large chunk of the country in the 60’s. A piece of this warmth is headed in our direction.

The Northern and Southern jet stream will be active today. Both streams will contain their own upper level trough and surface low pressure as they move through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The systems will not phase until they get off the coast. The result- clouds and sun with a few rain or snow showers later this afternoon. The day will be mild.

Colder weather will move in behind the system for late week.

Weak high pressure will be with us today. The winds will abate. Temperatures will be near seasonal averages.

On Wednesday the Northern and Southern jet stream will be active. Both streams will contain their own upper level trough and surface low pressure as they move through and off the East coast. The systems will not phase meaning  one strong storm will not form. The day will be dry.
