Much Cooler Friday. Rain Moves in During the Afternoon…

Synopsis:

Get used to the clouds that have rolled into the region. They will stick around, unfortunately from now through two thirds of the Memorial Day weekend. It will also be unseasonably chilly with readings in the 50s and 60s through Sunday. Rain will develop Friday afternoon (scattered in nature) and continue on and off through Sunday as two areas of low pressure affect the region. This will not be a beach weekend obviously.

The first area of low pressure will develop over the Ohio Valley on Friday. A period of heavy rain is likely Friday night. One to two inches of rain is possible by Saturday morning. The Nam and Euro models are above depicting the possible rainfall amounts by Noon Saturday. This first low will move offshore during the day Saturday. The rain will transition to scattered showers during the morning.

The second area of low pressure will develop off the Maryland coast and move Northeast and out to sea. This second punch will not be as intense as the first round of rain. Scattered showers are likely Saturday night through Sunday.

High pressure in Southeastern Canada should funnel in enough dry air for a decent Memorial Day. Mainly sunny skies and more seasonal temperatures are anticipated.

More times than not, the forecast for the unofficial beginning of Summer (the holiday weekend) includes some threat of rain and cool temperatures. This year will be no different.

Stay tuned.
