Synopsis:
The forecast continues to go downhill for the Memorial Day Weekend. It will also be unseasonably chilly with readings in the 50s and 60s through Monday. Heavy rain is expected tonight. On and off rain is now expected thorough Memorial Day morning. Two areas of low pressure will affect the region. Forget the beach and maybe spark up the fireplace.
The first area of low pressure move into Southern NJ overnight. A period of heavy rain is likely. One to two inches of rain is possible by Saturday morning. The Nam and Euro models are above depicting the possible rainfall amounts by Noon Saturday. This first low will move offshore during the day Saturday. The rain will transition to scattered showers during the morning. There maybe several hours of dry time during the mid to late afternoon.
The second area of low pressure will develop off the Maryland coast and move Northeast slowly Sunday into Monday. Unfortunately, the latest computer guidance has the low stalling in our vicinity. For this reason, I had to put showers in the forecast for Memorial Day morning. Hopefully, fingers crossed, we can get that barbecue in by afternoon. We need high pressure in Southeastern Canada t0 funnel drier air. If this occurs the sun should make an appearance for the second half of the day.
More times than not, the forecast for the unofficial beginning of Summer (the holiday weekend) includes some threat of rain and cool temperatures. This year will be no different.
Of course, drastic improvements will occur on Tuesday, June 1st. Sunshine and comfortable readings are expected.
