Areas of Torrential Rain Sunday. High Winds East….

Synopsis:

Tropical Storm Henri will be making landfall near the Rhode Island/Connecticut line in the early afternoon. Tropical Storm force gusts are possible over Eastern Long Island and Southeast Connecticut. Elsewhere winds will be much lighter.

The tri-state are will experience areas of on and off  heavy rain today. Yes, there will be breaks in the rain.  The bands will pivot around Henri. A Flood Watch is in effect for most of the region for today into Monday.  Rainfall of two to ten inches is possible (map above). Flooding of streets, streams, rivers and basements could occur. Several inches of rain has already fallen in the NYC vicinity. Remember, never drive through a flooded roadway. You don’t know how deep it is. TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. Devastating flooding is possible where rainfall exceeds 5 to 10 inches.  The axis of heavy rain will be across the Northern 2/3rds of the region for today into Monday morning. Parts of central & Southern NJ will see lighter amounts in fact some sunshine is possible in parts of those regions today.

High surf and dangerous rip currents will continue through tonight.

Henri will move slowly out of Southern New England on Monday and weaken. Leftover showers are likely along with some peeks of sun.

Hazy, hot and humid conditions are expected for midweek.

Keep it here for a no nonsense, no hype forecast.
