Synopsis:
A low to our South will move toward the region today. It’ll throw on and off light snow or snow showers our way starting later this morning. On and off light sleet, freezing rain mixed with the snow will likely occur in the NYC vicinity and to the South. Central and Southern NJ will mainly experience rain. This system will basically fall apart over the region so significant snow will not occur. A coating to 2″ of snow is likely in areas where snow is the predominate type of precipitation (Well North of NYC). A icy glaze and a light coating of snow will accumulate in the mix zone. No accumulation is expected over Southern areas. The map above depicts the precipitation type during the mid afternoon.
On and off light snow, mix and light rain will continue tonight.
Early morning showers of mixed precipitation and snow showers will give way to some sun as the weak system pulls off our coast on Wednesday.
A strengthening storm will move off the Carolina coast Thursday. This will result in increasingly strong winds under a mix of sun and clouds. Readings will remain just above freezing.
Arctic high pressure will funnel in the coldest air of the season so far on Friday. Mainly sunny skies are expected with a biting wind.
By Saturday the winds will have abated as the cold high settles over the region. Abundant sunshine is expected.
