Cold Tonight. Calm Before Saturday’s Nor’Easter…

Synopsis:

High pressure will be over the region tonight resulting in cold readings. Temperatures will fall to near of below freezing outside of the urban corridor. A fine finish to the workweek is expected on Friday albeit chilly. Clouds will eventually win the battle with the sun.

A Nor’easter will affect the area Saturday. First off, we are not looking at snow with this event (just want to make that clear). A period of heavy rain is likely on Saturday, most likely occurring in the morning. Winds could exceed 40mph, especially at the coast. One to two inches of rain is likely (map above) and coastal flooding may occur. A Coastal Flood Watch has been posted for Saturday for much of the tri-state area. Tidal flooding is possible and the rise in water may reach one to three feet above normal. The storm will wind down during the afternoon. The rain will become lighter and the wind will abate some.

Sunday will be the better half of the weekend with a mix of sun and clouds. We’ll be between systems.

Another area of low pressure will develop on a second round of energy working in with the jet stream. At this time it looks weak so a period of rain or scattered showers is possible.

The jet stream looks to be very active through the end of next week. Another storm threat could be on the horizon.
