Synopsis:
Scattered thunderstorms later today and this evening have the potential to become severe. An isolated tornado is possible in any of the storms. A Tornado Watch is in effect until 9pm for much of NJ. A Watch means the potential is there for possible tornadoes. It does not mean your area will experience a tornado. Eye to the sky for threatening weather conditions.
High pressure will move into the Atlantic today. This will result in a flow off the ocean and mainly cloudy skies. Temperatures will be much cooler-remaining in the 70s. Upper level energy swinging through will spark scattered showers throughout the day. There will be dry times. By late this afternoon and evening a cool front will approach with scattered storms. Some of the storms may be severe. The above map shows the greatest risk from the City and to the South and West. There is an enhanced risk of severe storms over central and Southern NJ. The best chance for scattered severe storms is between 3pm and 9pm. Severe thunderstorms contain winds in excess of 58mph and or one inch hail. Keep an eye to the sky.
Friday will be a delight. High pressure over Southeastern Canada will provide the region with sunny skies and very low humidity although the winds will be gusty.
A semi-decent weekend is on the way as we say good-bye to July and hello to August. Saturday will be the better half of the weekend as High pressure moves off the Eastern seaboard. Sunny skies and low humidity is anticipated. Sunday, August’s debut, will feature a mix of sun and clouds with the threat of scattered showers and storms during the afternoon as a weak disturbance moves in from the West.
