Nor’easter to affect the area through the weekend…

A nor’easter will affect the area this weekend. The rain and high winds (especially along the coast) will come in waves.

The storm will take a track up the coast and then retrograde (hook back) toward NJ. This is not a good scenario. It will be a slow moving storm.

Rain: The rain will move in from East to West during the day on Saturday. There will be periods of heavy rain and some dry times mixed through the weekend. The rain looks to become spotty Sunday afternoon. Some of the rain will be heavy. 1″-3″ of rain is expected by the time the storm weakens near the area and moves back to the Northeast Sunday night. Local flooding of streets and highways are possible.

Wind: North to Northeast winds will continue through Sunday. Wind Advisories have been posted for many areas for wind gusts at times up to 45-55mph. Along the immediate NJ coast a High Wind Warning is up for gusts to 60mph. Isolated power outages and downed trees are possible, especially in the warning area.

Coastal Flooding: The ocean and waterways are angry. There has been a persistent wind off the ocean for days. This has resulted in a piling up of water along the coast, back bays and inlets. Add a Nor’easter to the mix and a full moon-the result, minor to major coastal flooding will occur at high tide. Please check your local tide chart for times of high tide in your vicinity. Beach erosion and high surf will continue for the duration of the storm.

On Monday the storm will  weaken near the region. A few showers are possible.

Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll finally get a break with the sun returning along with mild temperatures.
