Synopsis:
Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 11pm for most of NJ and for Rockland and Orange counties. Some of the thunderstorms may become severe with winds in excess of 58 mph, large hail, frequent lighting and torrential rain. A Flood Watch is up for the entire tri-state area through late tonight. There is a moderate risk of excessive rainfall for the NYC vicinity with the rest of the region in a slight risk. There is the potential for one to three inches of rain. If you encounter a road covered with water- TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN. This is all the result of a frontal boundary draped across the region. This will be the focus mechanism for showers and thunderstorms into Wednesday morning.
The rain and storms will become more scattered Wednesday. It will be cooler with the wind out of the Northeast and mainly cloudy skies. Thursday should feature sun and clouds with possible showers.
Now to Tropical Storm Debby. The storm on the Southern SC coast. It will meander over the Southeast until a trough picks up the system and moves it up the coast. It’s affects on our area look to be in the timeframe of Friday afternoon through early morning Saturday. Many of the computer models have sped up the time of remnants passing through our region. It could be a dry Saturday. This is not etched in stone and is subject to change. Where that axis of heavy rain develops is the question. We are not expecting high winds.
Whatever the case Sunday will be a beauty with sunny skies and seasonable temperatures.
Stay tuned.
Keep it here for a no nonsense, no hype forecast.
