Synopsis
The Spring feel will continue through the weekend. Super Bowl Sunday will be dry and mild with clouds giving way to some sun.
Clouds will roll in on Monday ahead of a developing system over the central Appalachians. This low will redevelop East of Delaware Tuesday and then move up and off the coast. Rain will develop Monday night. Inland a mix will change to snow. As the storm intensifies rapidly off our coast slightly colder air will be wrapped into the system both from aloft and at the surface. The potential has lowered for the rain to go over to a plowable snow in the NYC vicinity by Tuesday morning. The reason negating this with the latest computer models is the storm track is a bit too close to the coast resulting in a slightly warmer solution. The ground will have been wet from the rain that fell during the night. The airmass is marginally cold to produce a significant snow of the immediate NYC vicinity. At this time the “first call” map is for a coating to 2″ in and around the City. Heavy snow will fall to the North and West with a significant accumulation expected. This region is the jackpot zone. Southern areas will miss this one. The snow will taper off around midday. This is a low confidence forecast. I tell it like it is. There will be changes to the potential snow amounts map. As the storm pulls away Tuesday afternoon the sun may shine for a couple of hours.
A blustery day is anticipated for Wednesday, Valentines Day. Skies will be partly sunny with near seasonable temperatures. More of the same is expected for Thursday.
